As I’ve started attending Cal State Long Beach this school year, trips to my favorite shop, The Workshop, have been more frequent. The shop is situated in the tight knit community of Bixby Knolls, one of the nicer areas of Long Beach.

Tommy Mao | Quickie
This was a really nice surprise. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from Tommy, but clearly he’s been staying at it. Really dialed tricks and the ender was so killer. Lets hope to see more from the whole 209 Cogs crew this year!
CAN’T FOOL THE YOUTH | THAILAND TAKEOVER.
For this upcoming spring break, Zane Meyer, Steven Jensen, Jonathan Davis, RSK, Jason Sellers, Jakob Santos, Devon Lawson, Josh Boothby, Colby Elrick, and myself are taking a trip to Thailand for the upcoming Can’t Fool the Youth 3 premiere + FGFS trick competition on April 5th. We’re going to be filming for an upcoming Can’t Fool the Youth road trip edition as well. So stoked to have this opportunity to go with my friends and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of Zane and Bombtrack Bicycle Co. See you then Bangkok!
CSK | Splined Sprocket w/ Guard
Jacob Ruff with CSK had a little custom work done with a sprocket + sprocket guard. A very good idea that hasn’t necessarily been available for Fixed Gear Freestyle, let alone splined drive systems. Designs are being thrown around and it’s still a work in progress at the moment, but he says he hopes to get it out “sooner than later, but we all know how that goes.” Check out the full post at HAMMERDOWN.
Joe Mckeag | Royal HC Quick Clip
Royal HC quick clips are always fire. This one features Joe Mckeag hitting a wall 180 on a new spot in Long Beach. Here’s what Royal had to say:
“One of the first pros to be on royal HC, Joe Mckeag hits a local Long Beach wall (filmed by JBall). I was so happy to have this guy on royal HC a while ago and am still to this day. His style has inspired many riders to the point where I see other riders handling a bike just like Joe. His skill on any bike, not just FGFS, is incredible. Keep an eye out for Joe in the upcoming FGFS video Stay Strapped. You know it’s going to be good.”
Johnathan Ball | Royal HC Quick Clip
Got this clip filming with Royal HC a while ago. Check it out.
Chnfgfs 2 – Shenzhen
Locked Cog posted this up and it’s fucking killer. The China scene doesn’t get too much exposure but this was seriously so sick. A bunch of under-the-radar slayers over there shredding some sick spots. We need more!

Two Strap Krew NYC | Double Feature
Two videos released in the past couple days from the newly formed Two Strap Krew coming out of New York City. Great to see riding coming from there again.
The first is “Joe The Ripper” or Joseph Montano, and damn does the dude rip. Rail game on lock and steezy lines throughout. This edit was killer, can’t wait to see more.
And here’s a bike check from Zee Washington of his Concept Assassin. These frames always build up clean.
FGFS | A brief history
Although Fixed Freestyle is a newer sport, so much has happened within 7 years (7 years already??) that a novel could be written on an in depth history. I’ve become aware that many newer people in the scene haven’t quite been caught up on how we got to where we are today, and there isn’t exactly any place you can just simply research the history of FGFS. So, without further ado, I present a brief history of the scene/sport, or basically, the most historical edits and DVDs. WRAHW Inspired.
