Tyrant Bikes, owned by former Leader owner Sal Sambroso, was kind enough to send a Tyrant Legacy steel frame our way to build up, ride, and talk about. Gallery of the build and some additional thoughts after the jump!

Alright, so the Tyrant Legacy is a cool bike. I don’t ride track bikes that much anymore, but ripping around on this bike has been so much fun. I think a lot of credit to those feelings has to go towards the way I built it up, but the frame is still doing a great job.
Ultimately, this frame is for people who are looking for an everything bike. You can fit 35c tires, take some abuse, can be build it up in multiple ways, it’s comfortable to ride, and it looks nice. With a pricepoint of $499 for the frameset, it sits at a perfect middle ground between affordable and quality.
My only gripes were said in the video already, but I’ll reiterate them a bit:
- I think toe overlap for riding in the streets is annoying. Yes it makes the frame tight and compact, but turning corners while hitting your foot isn’t enjoyable for anyone.
- Bottle mounts for a steel frame aren’t my jam. I think it makes the frame look cheaper. Probably a plus for a lot of people though, I just don’t ride very far these days.
- Can’t barspin. Boo!

That’s it really. The frame does what it needs to do, very well. Check out the Tyrant Legacy frameset on their website here.
