As I’ve started attending Cal State Long Beach this school year, trips to my favorite shop, The Workshop, have been more frequent. The shop is situated in the tight knit community of Bixby Knolls, one of the nicer areas of Long Beach.
The shop has two hard working employees, Filiki (Not pictured) and Gabe; mechanics who are the driving force behind the shop’s desire to grow and expand the Long Beach FGFS community, and bike community as a whole.
The shop has become known for it’s customer satisfaction; always putting the customer before profits, trying to help as much as possible to help people make the right decision when it comes to bikes, even if it means pointing them in a different direction than the shop’s options.
The shop also specializes in skateboards and scooters, reaching a wider audience and attracting more than just the bike crowd. With it’s wide selection of decks, trucks, and more, it adds another reason for it’s popularity.
One of sMc’s family members, Jacob Santos, is a regular at the shop. He often helps out with mechanic work like he works there, and always brings a positive attitude and a smile to The Workshop and it’s customers.
In general, the shop stands for being friendly and really giving the customer what they want. I’ve been sponsored by the shop for some time now, but only recently have been hanging out there as a regular due to moving to Long Beach. Although it’s a bit of a ride from the college to the shop, it’s always well worth it. I can expect goofing off, good friends, and a proper bike tune up. The shop has become a staple in the Bixby Knolls community and is the go-to shop for everybody in the area. Head in there and you can often find myself and Jacob hanging out and fucking around.
